When choosing the wick, three aspects must be taken into account: what type of candle we are going to make, what thickness it will have and what material we prefer the wick.

For ecological candles you will find a specific wick. It is cotton, it is not waxed and its interior is made of eucalyptus paper. It is available in different thicknesses, from 1-2 mm to 7-8 mm.

Waxed wick and unwaxed braided cotton wick are the most common. The first is already ready to use, while the second is necessary to wax before placing it on the candle. The same happens with the rest of wicks that are sold without waxing. The process is very simple: just immerse the wick in the wax or melted paraffin that we are going to use and let dry.

When choosing the wick, you have to take into account the diameter of the candle and the melting point of the wax or paraffin. The wider the sail, the more centimeters thick the wick will have to be. In addition, the higher the melting point of paraffin, the greater the thickness. For example, for a 65º paraffin candle 7 cm in diameter, the thickness of the wick should be 7-8 mm.
